Refugee Team Athlete Disqualified from Olympics for Political Slogan

Organizers of the Olympic Games in Paris have disqualified Afghan athlete Manizha Talash, who competed as part of the refugee team, for displaying a political slogan. This was reported by Agence France-Presse.

During the competition, Talash showed a vest with the inscription “Freedom for Afghan Women” prior to her first Olympic match against Dutch competitor India Sargjio.

“Talash has been disqualified for displaying political content on her clothing, which is a violation of Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter,” the statement reads. The rule prohibits athletes from expressing political views during competitions at the Olympic Games.

It is noteworthy that 37 athletes from the refugee team are participating in 12 different sports at the Paris Olympic Games.
