This is a Unique Tribute to My Roots: Tennis Player Elina Avanesyan on Representing Armenia
Tennis player Elina Avanesyan, currently ranked 58th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) standings, has received Armenian citizenship and will represent Armenia in upcoming tournaments.
The 21-year-old athlete will compete under the Armenian flag at the Cincinnati tournament in the United States, starting on August 11, followed by the U.S. Open starting August 26.
Welcoming Avanesyan's decision to compete under the Armenian flag, the Armenian Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasyan, emphasized that it reflects her dedication and love for her homeland. “Elina's ambition to achieve great success as an Armenian athlete will undoubtedly inspire our youth and elevate the status of tennis in Armenia. We eagerly await her successes and the positive impact she will have on our sports community,” said Andreasyan.
“I am very proud to represent Armenia in international competitions from now on. This is a unique opportunity and a tribute to my roots, homeland, and family, who have always supported me,” Avanesyan stated after acquiring her athletic citizenship.
Avanesyan emphasized her desire to achieve significant accomplishments as an Armenian athlete and to bring great success to the Republic of Armenia in the future.
The Tennis Federation of Armenia has also wholeheartedly welcomed Elina's desire to compete under the Armenian flag and is confident, as stated by the federation's executive director Gevorg Karamanukyan, that Elina's determination and victories will inspire young Armenian tennis players.
