Ministry of Emergency Situations Reports on Explosion Statistics for 2023

According to statistical data, there were 39 explosions recorded in 2023, resulting in 4 fatalities and 51 injuries. In 2024, as of August, there have been 26 explosions, leading to 8 deaths and 27 injuries. This information was reported by the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“Improper operation of natural and liquefied gas can create explosive situations. To avoid explosions and fires, it is necessary to adhere to technological standards when operating gas appliances and cylinders. They must be kept in proper condition and regularly checked,” stated Colonel Manvel Avetisyan, head of the Division for the Protection of Critical Facilities of the Rescue Forces Administration.

By government decree, vehicle gas cylinders must undergo testing and have operation permits for servicing at gas stations. Besides gas cylinders, rubber hoses can also cause injuries.

Often, safety regulations are not followed when installing gas cylinders on vehicles, which can create not only dangerous situations but also lead to gas wastage. It is crucial to adhere to several simple safety rules for the operation of gas cylinders and equipment.

Connection points should be regularly checked with foam. If there is a smell of gas in the vehicle, one should immediately consult a specialist. Gas cylinders should be installed in well-ventilated areas protected from direct sunlight. If a fire spreads to a gas cylinder, it is imperative to turn off the gas source and move it to a safe location while calling 911,” the report notes.
