Was There a Dispute Between Armenian and Azerbaijani Border Guards in Kiran?

There has been no dispute between Armenian and Azerbaijani border guards in Kiran. This was reported by the National Security Service of Armenia in response to Sputnik Armenia's inquiry.

Earlier, information had circulated on social networks claiming that several disputes had arisen between the border guards of Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding a new border in the village of Kiran. According to media reports, employees of the Azerbaijani State Border Service assert that the new road allegedly partially passes through Azerbaijani territory (based on the maps from the USSR Armed Forces General Staff).

“There have been no disputes between the border guard forces of the NSS of Armenia and the Azerbaijani border guards regarding the route of the new road in the Kiran area. The NSS has no information about Azerbaijan expressing disagreement regarding the construction of the new road following delimitation in the Tavush region’s Kiran area,” stated the written answer.

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure also responded to the original source's inquiry, stating that the construction of the new road began after the delimitation works were completed.

“The route of the new road bypassing the Kiran bridge passes through the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. No changes to the route of the constructed road are planned,” the ministry said.
