Pentagon Prepares to Assist Israel in Case of Iranian Attack

The Washington administration has not commented on whether Iran will attack Israel, but U.S. military officials are preparing to support the Jewish state if necessary. This position was presented by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin during U.S.-Australian "two plus two" format talks.

"I will not speculate on whether Iran will attack Israel and when," he said at a press conference in Annapolis, Maryland. "We are doing everything possible to protect our soldiers and to ensure that we can help Israel if asked to do so," added the Pentagon chief. "You have seen that we have taken a number of steps to strengthen the positions of our forces," he noted.
