Paris 2024: Athletes Find Maggots in Food at Olympic Village
The triple Olympic champion and British swimmer Adam Peaty has reported that athletes are finding maggots in fish dishes offered at the Olympic Village. Peaty, who will turn 30 in December, won a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke event at the Paris Olympic Games, after which he tested positive for coronavirus.
“The food is not what it should be for athletes. The food in Tokyo was fantastic, as was in Rio de Janeiro. But this time there are not enough options for protein-rich food, long lines, waiting 30 minutes for food. I want to eat meat; I need meat to perform, that's what I eat at home, why should I change that? I also like fish, but people are finding maggots in it. That’s not good. We are looking at the best of the best in the world, but they are not getting the best,” Peaty’s remarks were quoted by the Daily Mail.
It is worth noting that the Olympic Games will continue until August 11. A total of 15 Russian athletes are participating in the games, including seven tennis players, three representatives from kayak and canoeing, three cyclists, one trampoline diver, and one swimmer. By the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the athletes are competing under a neutral status, without the flag and anthem of Russia, and their awards do not appear in the medal table.
