Video: Prime Minister of Bangladesh Resigns and Leaves the Country
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, has resigned amid unrest and left the country. This was reported by News 18 on social media platform X. The post stated, 'Hasina has resigned. She was able to leave the country and travel to Finland.'
Prior to this, it was reported that Sheikh Hasina and her sister had left Ganabhaban, the official residence, and moved to a safer location. Simultaneously, thousands of protesters stormed the Prime Minister's office.
Protests began in the capital Dhaka and across the country after the announcement of a multi-day 'non-cooperation movement' by a student organization against discrimination, which started on Sunday.
Clashes between anti-government students, police, and government supporters escalated into riots.
The Bangladesh government has imposed a curfew in Dhaka and other cities starting at 6 PM local time until further notice. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the upcoming week have been declared holidays across the country.
