Tennis Player Elina Avanesyan Appears Under Armenian Flag in Updated WTA Rankings

The Armenian tennis player Elina Avanesyan has secured the 58th position in the updated WTA rankings, with a total of 1002 ranking points. Notably, the Armenian flag is now displayed next to the player’s name in the international standings, as she has started representing Armenia.

It was previously reported that the athlete was in the process of obtaining Armenian citizenship and intended to compete under the Armenian flag. Prior to the update in the rankings, Avanesyan represented Russia.

It is worth mentioning that the decision for her to represent Armenia was announced by Karen Giloyan, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the country. According to the head of the Russian Tennis Federation, the athlete has been living in Barcelona for three years. Avanesyan is 21 years old.
