Has Appropriate Assistance Been Provided to Arsen Afiuyan at the Medical Center? The Ministry's Response
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia is unable to provide details regarding the medical assistance given to Arsen Afiuyan, who was transferred to Sevan's medical center with a gunshot wound on July 17. This was stated by the department in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier reporting indicated that Arsen Afiuyan, 37, was shot dead at a hotel complex in Sevan on July 17. He was taken to the hospital where he succumbed without regaining consciousness.
According to information from the media, Afiuyan did not receive timely and proper assistance at the medical center. Therefore, the media requested clarity on whether Afiuyan was transported to the medical center by ambulance, what first aid was administered to him, what interventions were made after his admission, which specialists were involved in his care, and so on.
The Ministry of Health noted that the issues raised are part of a criminal case initiated by the Sevan investigative division of the Gegharkunik Regional Investigative Committee, and that information cannot be provided in order not to obstruct the preliminary investigation. The department also mentioned that the requested data is considered medical confidentiality.
In conversations with the media, some residents of Sevan expressed dissatisfaction regarding the delay of the ambulance service, citing an insufficient number of vehicles. The ministry reported that of the 5 ambulances available at Sevan Medical Center's emergency medical service, 4 are currently operational.
