Kamala Harris Mistakenly Labels Herself as President

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris mistakenly referred to herself as the president during a eulogy for Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. While delivering her remarks, Harris reminded the audience that the late Jackson Lee was the sponsor of the bill that recognized the day of emancipation for enslaved people as a national holiday.

“As a Senator from the United States, I proudly served as a co-sponsor. And then, as president... vice president,” she misstated during the funeral, which was broadcast on Fox News. The audience responded to Harris’s “error” with shouts and applause.

On July 25, Harris announced her candidacy for the presidential election set for November 2024, after current President Joe Biden decided not to run for re-election and endorsed Harris as the Democratic candidate for the presidency.
