VIDEO: Air Pollution Levels in Yerevan Are High Despite the Installation of Dust-Collecting Devices
In the first half of 2024, 534 administrative violations regarding air pollution have been recorded at construction sites in Yerevan. This information was announced at a press conference by Ruben Khodjayan, the deputy head of the city’s Urban Development and Land Control Department.
Most of the recorded violations (147) were for the absence of dust collection nets, while in several cases (78), air quality monitoring devices were missing. Khodjayan informed that currently, there are 248 multi-apartment buildings under construction in Yerevan, and almost all developers have been issued these violation records.
“Developers have been fined between 70,000 to 100,000 drams. There are also cases of repeated violations by the same developer, in which case the fines increase,” he said.
He emphasized that the Yerevan Municipality is not focused on penalizing individuals but aims for all developers to comply with established requirements.
The deputy head of the Municipality’s Environmental Protection Department, Gorik Avetisyan, also reported that since the beginning of the year, they have installed 60 air quality monitoring devices at the sites of 30 developers (two devices at each construction site).
He noted that if they detect any deviations from the norms at a developer's site according to their program, they immediately visit the construction site and take appropriate measures.
