Truck Driver Charged in Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident in Yerevan
On July 29, a report was received regarding a hit-and-run incident that occurred the same day at approximately 12:50 PM, involving a truck driven by a 27-year-old individual. The incident took place on Acharian Street in Yerevan, near a bus stop, where the truck, a "Mercedes," struck three pedestrians.
As a result of the incident, a 75-year-old man and his 73-year-old wife, both residents of Yerevan, died at the scene, while their 48-year-old son received medical assistance.
In connection with the incident, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia launched a criminal case under Clause 3 of Article 342 of the RA Criminal Code, concerning road traffic crimes. An examination of the scene was conducted, witnesses were interviewed, and forensic medical examinations were appointed.
Based on the collected evidence, the 27-year-old truck driver has been charged under Clause 3 of Article 342 of the RA Criminal Code. A restraining order has been applied, with the driver placed under house arrest, coupled with a bail of 1 million drams and a prohibition on leaving the country.
The investigation is ongoing. The condition of the 48-year-old victim, who is currently in the medical facility, is stable.
Note: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a legally enforceable court decision in accordance with the provisions of the RA Criminal Procedure Code.
