US Accuses Russia and China of Recruiting Americans for Propaganda

Russia, China, and Iran are recruiting Americans to spread propaganda that promotes their interests ahead of the upcoming US presidential elections, according to a report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence titled "100 Days Until the Election." The agency emphasized that it continues to monitor various foreign entities that "conduct or plan influence operations aimed at U.S. elections." Among such entities are Russia, China, and Iran.

Intelligence officials believe that to achieve their goals, these countries or their representatives turn to commercial companies, such as marketing and public relations firms. According to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, Moscow is using such companies, among other things, to engage Americans in tailoring their narratives and content for the American audience.

“These individuals (recruited Americans) are posting content on social networks, writing for various websites that have both overt and covert ties to the Russian government, and performing activities for other media,” the intelligence agency stated, labeling Russia as “a primary threat to the elections in the U.S.”
