Video: New Footage of Twin Towers Collapse Released 23 Years After Attack
New footage has emerged online from the terrorist attack during the collapse of the Twin Towers on September 11. Japanese photographer Kei Sugimoto has released a video on YouTube showing the destruction of the World Trade Center towers in the United States on September 11, 2001, filmed with a professional camera.
"These are the shots I took during the collapse of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. It was filmed from the rooftop of 64 St. Marks Place in New York using a Sony VX2000 camera with a teleconverter," he wrote. The man requested that the video be used only for “historical archival purposes.”
The footage vividly shows how black smoke billowed from the towers before both buildings collapsed. On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 militants from the Islamist group Al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger planes. Two of the aircraft were directed towards the Twin Towers located in the southern part of Manhattan, New York. Another plane crashed into the Pentagon, while the fourth plane went down in Pennsylvania.
In addition to the 19 attackers, 2,977 people lost their lives in the attacks, and 24 others remain missing. The majority of the victims were civilians. This act of terrorism became the deadliest in history in terms of the number of casualties.
