IOC Apologizes to South Korea for Error During Olympic Opening Ceremony

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has apologized to the South Korean delegation for a mistake made during the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. IOC representative Mark Adams shared this information during a press briefing.

During the opening ceremony, which took place on July 26, the hosts mistakenly referred to the North Korean representatives as athletes arriving from South Korea. The South Korean side has requested a meeting with IOC President Thomas Bach. “We sincerely apologize for this mistake,” Adams said.

Additionally, six members of the South Korean swimming team have left the Olympic village in Paris, as reported by RMC. The South Korean athletes have checked into a hotel, expressing dissatisfaction with transportation hubs. One swimmer was particularly displeased that the high-speed trains did not have air conditioning, comparing the train cars to a sauna due to the high temperatures inside. Another athlete complained that the journey from the Olympic village to the swimming pool took 40-45 minutes.

“Moreover, the bus windows were secured. They are probably taking precautions against terrorist attacks. This issue needed to be addressed somehow,” explained swimmer Kim Woo Min, citing the reasons for leaving the village.

The Paris Olympic Games will conclude on August 11.
