Young Man Steals Ex-Girlfriend's Phone in Yerevan and Attempts to Secure Loan

Investigation into a robbery incident has revealed several significant details during the inquiry and procedural actions carried out by the authorities. This was reported by the Investigative Committee.

According to the data obtained during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated in the Arabkir administrative district of the Yerevan investigative department, on July 17, 2024, at around 1:10 PM, a woman met her ex-boyfriend, a 27-year-old man, near Kamo School on Baghramyan Avenue in Yerevan. Under the pretext of calling a friend, he took the woman’s phone.

Failing to return the phone, he proceeded to pull her and struck her foot, causing her to fall to the ground and drop her bag. Another man present at the scene took the bag, which contained bank and identification cards, other documents, and cash, and fled the scene. In the wake of this, the 27-year-old man also fled with the woman’s phone in hand.

It became evident that the 27-year-old man, having gained access to her personal and banking information through the phone, attempted to secure an online loan in her name, using the identification card, for an amount of approximately 4.3 million dram and tried to make a significant money transfer from her bank card to another individual’s bank card, which was not successful. The loan was suspended due to the victim calling the bank to block her accounts as a preventive measure.

During the investigation, the crime scene was examined, and the surveillance cameras present at the site were seized and analyzed. A forensic examination has been appointed regarding the bodily injuries sustained by the victim.

Based on sufficient evidence obtained, public criminal proceedings have been initiated against the 27-year-old under Article 252, Part 2, Clause 3, Article 456, Part 2, Clause 1, and Article 44-255, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A decision has been made to arrest the 27-year-old man, and this task has been assigned to the Police of the Republic of Armenia.

The investigation is ongoing.

Note: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty under the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia through a legally valid court ruling.
