I Am Confident That We Will Never Forge Elections in This Country: Avinyan

The Mayor of Yerevan and member of the ruling ‘Civil Contract’ party, Tigran Avinyan, expressed confusion regarding the values espoused by the ‘Tavush for the Homeland’ movement. During a press conference, the mayor also questioned whether the members of the movement share democratic values.

Avinyan emphasized his confidence in the ideology of his political force, which is based on democratic values. “I firmly know our ideology—the ideology of me and the Prime Minister. It is very clear who we serve, what we are doing this work for, and what values we are guided by, and what significance democratic values hold for us. For me, the values of those standing on the stage (referring to the ‘Tavush for the Homeland’ movement) are not clear. I am not confident that they share the values of democracy, nor am I sure that their agenda aligns with the interests of this country and its people.”

He added, “I am confident that we will never forge elections in this country, and one day, undoubtedly, the opposition will win through fair elections. However, I am not sure that today there are forces that share that same logic and the most important, fundamental values.”
