Avinyan Discusses Transportation Ticketing System and Fare Increase

Currently, we are in the testing phase of implementing the transportation ticketing system in Yerevan. This was announced by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan during a press conference.

"The transition to a complete new ticketing system will occur starting from January 1. It can be said that we are currently in the testing phase, identifying and solving the issues related to the implementation of the ticketing system until the full system is operational," said Avinyan.

He noted that during this period, passengers will have the opportunity to purchase tickets through terminals in various locations. "Soon, we will have the option to directly purchase tickets through NFC-enabled bank cards or make payments instead, and we will also offer ticket cards. We want to ensure that this entire system is ready, so we can be confident that everything is functioning correctly, all problems are resolved, and the new system will fully launch on January 1," he added.

Regarding the fare increase, Avinyan stated, "The new system has a completely new logic. For those who use public transport more frequently, it may be cheaper, while for less frequent users, it could be more expensive."

According to Avinyan, the municipality has allocated zero drams for the implementation of a unified ticketing system. This principle was established in the competition, ensuring that the municipality would not incur expenses for the implementation. "The profit for the winning organization was based on ensuring maintenance during the five years in which the investments would be made, providing them with a specific opportunity to register new users in their system during that time. This is the logic. However, after five years, the entire system will be transferred to the Yerevan Municipality," he noted, adding that "TelSell" does not charge any intermediary fees as such.
