I Have Serious Doubts That the Public Broadcaster's Council Will Declare Armen Koloyan as the Winner: Khumaryan

The results of the competition announced for the vacant position of director of Public Radio seem to have already been determined, and frankly, I have serious doubts that at the meeting on the 29th, the Public Broadcaster's Council will declare the candidate named Armen Koloyan as the winner. This was stated today by the former director of Public Radio, Garegin Khumaryan, on his Facebook page.

"The apparent behind-the-scenes developments, in my opinion, closely resemble actions described in Articles 438 and 441 of the Criminal Code, and if any law enforcement agency decides to respond to this post, the first thing they should do is check with the Government's passport division. It should be determined which official working in the building signed the passports of the Chairman of the Public Broadcaster's Council, Ara Shirinyan, and the candidate for the director of Public Radio, Armen Koloyan, during the second week of July, where they went together, and what happened there.

There is another circumstance that, combined with this meeting and the expected outcome of the competition, leaves no room for doubt. I will keep that circumstance for examination. I believe it is clear that I know more than I am currently writing.

Public Broadcaster's Council members Vahagn Tevosyan, Arpi Voskanyan, Vasak Darbinyan, Varujan Olkinyan, and Aram Sukiasyan, I demand that you stop this disgusting farce. I hope that at least some of you have been played for fools, and you simply did not know about it. Cancel this competition and announce a new one. The members of the Public Broadcaster's Council should not select the director of Public Broadcasting. This should be done by independent electors, as has always been the case since 2010. Cancel the competition. Restore the institution of an independent competition commission, which you abolished by your arbitrary decision on April 5, and announce a new competition.

The game is up. To the remaining participants of the competition—Bella Hovhannisyan, Mher Margaryan, Mikayel Yalanuzyan, Lusine Petrosyan, Hakob Rubinyan, Nazeli Ohanyan—be advised that you have not been treated fairly. Demand an independent competition commission. Hire a lawyer. Start preparing to contest the competition results in court. And if you do not take the results to court after the 29th, withdraw from this farce legitimizing the dishonorable role of the background candidate. As a sign of protest, boycott the competition, withdraw your applications, and announce that. There is still time.

If you need further clarifications to make a decision, I am at your disposal. To the people concerned about the fate of Public Broadcasting: you often ask me, "What should we do, how can we contribute to a fair resolution?" Demand in every possible way that the members of the Public Broadcaster's Council restore the independent competition commission that they abolished by decision No. N33-L on April 5, 2024, and conduct the director of radio competition through independent electors' procedures. We have just one week left. We have exactly that much time to change the situation," Garegin Khumaryan wrote.
