We managed to sign the largest agreement with the Armenian government since the independence of the Republic of Armenia: Iranian ambassador

Iran will be able to double its import of electricity from Armenia. This was stated by the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, in an interview with SNN agency.

“One of our achievements was extending the gas and electricity clearing agreement between the two countries until 2030. We export 360 million cubic meters of gas to Armenia every year, in return for which we import electricity. We have also nearly reached the final phase of the third electricity transmission line from Armenia to Iran, which will be commissioned in the coming months, and we will be able to double our import of electricity from Armenia,” the ambassador noted.

He added that in the trade sector, the Iranian side has managed to increase the turnover with Armenia from 200 million dollars to 711 million dollars.

Sobhani emphasized that the strategic relations between Iran and Armenia have reached their peak with the signing of the largest agreement between the two countries. “Last year we managed to sign the largest agreement with the Armenian government since the independence of the Republic of Armenia. This agreement involves the construction of the Agarak-Gayran road in the southern part of Armenia, located along the North-South corridor route. Valued at 212 million dollars, this project significantly contributes to the export of Iran's technical and engineering services to Armenia. This road reduces the travel time from 1 hour and 20 minutes to 20 minutes and expands the road width from 6 meters to 17 meters, which is very beneficial in terms of safety and speed. We have other smaller projects worth 36 million dollars in different locations in Armenia,” the ambassador stated.
