New and Important Elements Will Help Armenia's Security: EU Ambassador
Armenia and the European Union are negotiating a new partnership agenda. There will be new and important elements that will assist Armenia's security and economic cooperation with the EU, thus enhancing the country's resilience. This was stated by the EU Ambassador to Armenia, Vassilis Maraghos, during his speech at the International Congress on Armenian Studies held at the Matenadaran.
"I also want to emphasize that the European Union is involved in supporting peace and stability in this region. And, in particular, I want to highlight how much we support Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We have deployed an observation mission at the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which particularly contributes to ensuring human security in border areas. In this context, I also want to inform you that the European Union has been at the forefront of supporting refugees from Nagorno-Karabakh. We have increased our support since last autumn. At the beginning of this process, we provided more than 20 million euros in assistance and humanitarian aid. Now we are supporting housing, employment, and making a number of decisions to prepare our budgetary assistance for the integration of refugees to reach up to 40 million for the Government of Armenia," said the EU Ambassador, adding that on April 5, 2024, the EU announced an assistance package of 270 million euros for Armenia's resilience and growth. Vassilis Maraghos also spoke about EU programs being implemented in the Syunik region and the investment projects taking place there.
