Main Cause of Global Windows Outage Resolved, Microsoft Reports
The main cause of the global Windows outage has been resolved, according to Microsoft. "Residual effects are still noticeable in some Microsoft 365 services and applications," the statement said.
Earlier reports indicated that all Windows computers with the CrowdStrike application installed were experiencing issues, showing only blue screens. Devices and servers with the software were "disconnected from the network and went into an endless reboot cycle."
American company CrowdStrike confirmed that the global outage was due to an update of its Falcon Sensor cybersecurity application. CEO George Kurtz stated that the incident was not related to a cyberattack.
On July 19, airlines, banks, and other services worldwide began reporting operational issues due to the malfunction of Windows devices. Flights were grounded at airports, and passengers were warned about problems that arose during security checks. According to BBC reports, over 1,000 flights were canceled worldwide due to the disruption.
The outage also affected the operations of banks, hospitals, and postal services. The cause of the disruption was identified as an update from CrowdStrike, the cybersecurity service provider. According to CNN, the issue was related to one of the company’s core software products, CrowdStrike Falcon. Following the outage, the company’s stocks suffered a sharp decline, leading to a loss of $13 billion.
