FSB to Gain Access to Data from State Registration Bodies in Russia
The Security and Anti-Corruption Committee of the State Duma of Russia has approved several amendments to various laws that expand the powers of the Federal Security Service (FSB). This was reported by TASS, referencing the texts of the documents.
It is proposed that the FSB will gain access to the data base of the country’s state registration bodies. The agency will have information regarding state registration of births, deaths, marriages, and divorces, as well as changes in similar registrations such as name changes or paternity confirmations.
Additionally, the State Duma committee has approved amendments that will prohibit any individuals or legal entities that obtain access to this information from disclosing it, if such disclosure could “hinder the execution of tasks assigned to the FSB.”
The FSB is also being proposed to be allowed to process personal data of its staff, including biometric data, without obtaining consent from its employees.
These amendments still need to be approved by the full composition of the State Duma.
The operator for state registration in Russia is the Federal Tax Service. Currently, information is provided from there to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Federal Tax Service, the Ministry of Health, Rosstat, the Ministry of Digital Development, the Social Fund of the Russian Federation, the Compulsory Health Insurance Fund, as well as to electoral commissions.
