Senator Bob Menendez Found Guilty on All 16 Counts of Corruption

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez was found guilty on all 16 counts of corruption by a Manhattan federal jury on Tuesday, Reuters reported. The jury deliberated for more than 12 hours over three days before reaching a verdict after a trial that lasted nine weeks.

The 70-year-old Menendez has pleaded not guilty to charges related to bribery, acting as a foreign agent, and obstructing justice. The trial focused on allegations that federal prosecutors described as "multiple schemes of bribery." According to the charges, the senator and his wife, Nadine Menendez, allegedly received hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, gold bars, cars, and mortgage payments from three businessmen in need of his assistance.

Menendez helped facilitate billions of dollars in U.S. aid to Egypt in exchange for bribes, where prosecutors say one of the businessmen, Wael Hanaa, had connections with government officials.
