Biden Announces Readiness for New Debate with Trump in September
U.S. President Joe Biden and Republican candidate Donald Trump's next debate will take place no sooner than September. The state leader made this statement during an interview with NBC.
A journalist asked twice whether it was possible for the debates to occur in the coming weeks, rather than two months later to get back on track.
"I'm in the groove. Where have you been? I've held 22 major events, met with thousands of people, gathered huge crowds. A lot is happening. I'm doing fine. I'm out there showing Americans that I can do everything, I don't need any hints. I can go out and answer any question. And I was standing there (at the press conference) when... when NATO was in town. I stood there for a whole hour answering questions," Biden responded.
The U.S. President also mentioned that he had an emotional conversation with Trump following the assassination attempt against him.
"I told him that I was concerned, I wanted to make sure everything was okay. His voice sounded good. He said that he was fine and thanked me for the call. I told him that Jill and I are literally praying for him, and I hope that his whole family has overcome this situation," the president said.
It should be noted that during the debate held about a month ago, Biden and Trump exchanged numerous insults. Biden referred to his rival as a "loser" and "clown," while Trump called him a criminal and a "loser candidate." After the debate, the majority attributed the victory to the Republican candidate, and the Democratic performance was deemed so unconvincing that discussions began in the party about the possibility of replacing Biden for the upcoming elections in November.
