How Many Days are Needed to Cross the Lars Checkpoint: The Attaché Explains

There are no queues on the road leading to the Upper Lars checkpoint from Georgia to Russia and vice versa, and the checkpoint is operating in a normal mode. This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attaché of the Armenian Embassy in Russia.

It was previously reported that around 2,000 trucks are waiting at the Russian-Georgian border. “There are 500 trucks heading from Armenia to Upper Lars. Some of them are already at the checkpoint, and the relevant paperwork is being processed,” Hakobyan said.

He noted that there are approximately the same number of trucks heading to Russia from various sections. The attaché reminded that about 150 Armenian trucks pass through customs at Upper Lars every day. The journey from Armenia to the Russian border takes Armenian carriers 2-3 days.

It should be noted that after the reconstruction of the Upper Lars checkpoint in 2022, its capacity has nearly doubled. Currently, there are 39 zones in operation, including 12 for trucks, two for buses, and 24 for passenger cars, along with an additional parking zone.

The road leading to Upper Lars is the only operational land route connecting Armenia with Russia (through Georgia).
