After Gunshots, 'He Won the Election': Republicans on Trump
The chances of Republican candidate Donald Trump winning the presidential election scheduled for November have increased following an assassination attempt against him, according to representatives of the Republican Party who spoke with Politico.
“President Trump survived this attack and just won the election,” said Congressman Derrick Van Orden.
Some Republicans believe this incident will strengthen voter support for the former president and yield results in the November elections. Congressman Tim Burchett added that the rapid dissemination of photos and videos on social media, showing Trump raising his fist and urging attendees to fight back, will also contribute to the rise in his popularity.
At the same time, Politico reports that some Republican members of Congress, such as Mike Collins, have shared baseless conspiracy theories suggesting that U.S. President Joe Biden “ordered” the shooting.
As for the Democrats, who have been actively criticizing Trump recently, they have ceased verbal attacks against the former president following the incident. Meanwhile, Republicans rushed to point to the rhetoric of the opposing side as a cause for the assault on Trump.
Earlier, we reported that an assassination attempt was made against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania. Gunshots were heard, after which he fell to the ground. Secret Service agents covered the former president with their bodies. Following the attempt on his life, Trump was taken to the hospital, and his life is not in danger. According to the FBI, the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, has been neutralized. The motive behind his actions remains unknown, and law enforcement officials have begun an investigation into the incident.
U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the assassination attempt on Trump. “I am glad to hear that he is safe and doing well. I pray for him and his family. Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for saving him. There is no place for such violence in America. Our nation must unite to condemn this,” Biden said in his address.
