KP Members Decide to Ease Abortion Regulations
KP members continue to surprise with their 'flights of thought,' reports the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd.'
‘Everything in our country is proceeding naturally, everything is fine, and now the KP members have decided to ease regulations on early pregnancy termination and to allow the donation of reproductive cells in Armenia.
The controversial bill proposing amendments to the 'Law on Human Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights' is authored by KP members Narek Zeynalyan, Lusine Badalyan, Tatevik Gasparyan, and Lena Nazaryan.
Currently, under existing laws, artificial termination of pregnancy is allowed only in hospital settings and through surgical methods. However, the KP members are proposing to make this process more accessible. They suggest allowing medical abortion up to eight weeks of pregnancy in medical organizations with gynecological licenses, in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
According to the World Health Organization's guidelines, artificial abortion is anticipated up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, but in Armenia, the threshold is suggested to be lowered.
The KP members are also proposing to permit the donation, export, and import of reproductive cells in the country. The bill also suggests raising the age limit for those using surrogate motherhood services from 53 to 55, and for surrogate mothers from 35 to 38. Furthermore, the bill proposes that the right to use surrogate motherhood services will not extend to foreign citizens or women who have no medical contraindications for carrying a pregnancy,’ stated the newspaper.
