Yerevan to Become a 'Smart City' as GIS System Expands

Mariam Z.

Yerevan is set to become a 'smart city', with all ongoing work to be visible online. This announcement was made during a working consultation at the Yerevan City Hall.

A representative from the city's Management Technology Center noted that the unified Geographic Information System (GIS) is being expanded. According to them, the expansion of this system (Yerevan City Hall's geoportal) will allow for more transparent management of the urban development permit layer with cadastral codes.

Integration of a new data source into the 'Active Citizen' analytical GIS platform has been implemented. Previously, data was introduced through the integration of the 'Active Citizen' mobile application. Currently, there is integration with the hotline number (1-05), and urban issues can be viewed in the spatial environment from two different sources, allowing for analysis and tracking of work.

The representative from the Management Technology Center emphasized that as an initial step towards creating a waste management monitoring platform, a mobile application has been developed. With this tool, it has been possible to record the status of almost all waste bins, and the process continues.
