Orbán Has Not Received Mandate from EU to Represent at Turkic States Organization Summit: Borrell
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has announced that Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has not received the authority to represent the community at the unofficial summit of the Turkic States Organization. This information was reported by TASS.
“Orbán has not received a mandate from the Council of the EU to represent interests at the summit of the Turkic States Organization,” Borrell wrote on X.
Moreover, the head of the EU diplomatic service emphasized that the European Union rejects the attempts by Turkic countries to legitimize the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, and reminded that the EU recognizes only the Republic of Cyprus as a subject.
Earlier, Borrell made a similar statement ahead of Orbán's visit to Moscow. At that time, the head of European diplomacy noted that the EU excludes official contacts with Russian President Vladimir Putin, while the Hungarian Prime Minister visited Moscow strictly within the framework of bilateral relations.
At that time, the chief EU diplomat emphasized that the presidency of Hungary in the EU Council does not grant Budapest any special rights regarding the representation of the EU on the international stage.
