Kyiv Outraged by Orban's Uncoordinated Visit to Moscow
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is outraged by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to Moscow, as it was not coordinated with Kyiv. This was reported by the press service of the diplomatic agency.
"Regarding Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to Moscow on July 5, 2024, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that the decision to carry out this visit was made by the Hungarian side without coordination or agreement with Ukraine," the agency stated on its website.
The Ministry explained its position by stating their objection to negotiations concerning Ukraine without its participation. Orban's visit marks the first by a Western leader to Russia since April 2022. His discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin are currently ongoing behind closed doors.
Péter Szijjártó, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade who is accompanying the Prime Minister on the trip to the Russian capital, believes that Orban's visit to Russia and his negotiations with Putin should serve as a step towards achieving peace in Ukraine.
On July 2, Orban was in Kyiv, where he discussed potential resolutions to the conflict in Ukraine with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
