After Traveling to Kyiv and Moscow, I Realized That the Parties' Positions Are Far Apart: Orbán
The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, has stated that he has learned about the opinion of Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the prospects for a ceasefire in Ukraine and the peaceful negotiations that should follow.
“Peace will not come by itself; it requires effort. Today, I discussed with Mr. Putin the pathways to achieving peace. I wanted to know what the shortest route to ending the war is. I wanted to hear and did hear the President’s thoughts on three important issues: what he thinks about the existing peace initiatives, what he thinks about the ceasefire and peace negotiations, and in what sequence they might be implemented. The third thing that interested me was the vision for Europe after the war. I thank the President for an open and candid conversation,” Orbán said at a press conference following his talks with Putin.
He announced that he had conducted negotiations with Putin at a time when Europe needs peace. Europe cannot feel secure due to the conflict in Ukraine, and the situation has begun to affect the EU's economic growth. Orbán admitted that after traveling to Kyiv and Moscow, he understood that the positions of the parties are far apart, and much needs to be done to bring the conflict to an end.
