Thomas Sargsyan's Family Doubts That Remains Are Those of Their Son
The family of Thomas Sargsyan, a 19-year-old conscript soldier who has been missing for nearly two years, does not believe that the remains handed over to the Armenian side belong to their son. Relatives of Thomas stated this in an interview with NEWS.am on July 3.
They informed us that the family intends to request a second examination of the remains. The reason why the relatives do not accept the results of the initial examination has not yet been clarified. "The parents do not believe that it is their son; they think that their son is alive," the family expressed.
Earlier, we reported that on June 21, the National Security Service announced that Azerbaijan had transferred the remains of two fallen Armenian soldiers to the Armenian side. It was noted that they are presumed to have been killed during the two-day military hostilities in September 2022. The identities of two soldiers, who had been missing since the September aggression of 2022, were identified. Until now, 19-year-old conscript Thomas Sargsyan and 33-year-old contract soldier Shiraz Khachatryan were considered missing.
It should be noted that the funeral ceremony for 33-year-old Shiraz Khachatryan will take place in the village of Pokr Masrik in the Gegharkunik province.
Let us recall that on September 13, 2022, starting at 00:05, divisions of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces began intensive shelling of Armenian positions along the entire border using artillery and large-caliber firearms, also deploying UAVs. The adversary targeted both military and civilian objects.
