Temporary Ban on Niqabs in Dagestan Due to Security Concerns
The Mufti of Dagestan has announced a temporary ban on the wearing of niqabs. Yesterday, the Fatwa Department found no grounds for such a decision, but it acknowledges the possibility of local restrictions due to 'external factors', according to Deputy Mufti Abdullah Salimov.
Based on a request from the Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs, which reported on existing threats to the safety of the republic's population, the Mufti, citing a competent conclusion reached by the Fatwa Department yesterday, declares a temporary ban on niqab wearing until the identified threats are eliminated.
