Fraudsters Attempt to Extort Money in Police Name Online

The Police department warns that there are attempts to extort money in their name online. Advertisements are circulating on the internet, particularly on Facebook and Instagram, wherein unknown individuals offer to return money lost due to financial fraud under the guise of the police.

Citizens are invited to enter a purported application page for returning their money, where they are asked to fill in personal information including the amount of money lost, the method of transfer (bank card or cryptocurrency), their first and last name, email address, and phone number.

Some time later, individuals speaking foreign languages call the specified phone number, demanding money to return the lost funds, claiming they are acting in accordance with the law.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges citizens to refrain from entering personal information on unfamiliar websites or pages, and to contact the Police if they suffer financial losses due to such criminal activities.
