Russian Woman Loses Passport and Discovers She ‘Married’ an Egyptian Man
A resident of St. Petersburg accidentally discovered that she was married to an Egyptian man, despite having no idea about it.
As Ekaterina recounts, she lost her passport in early summer 2021 and subsequently reported it to the police but did not manage to obtain a new one in time. When she later went to register her child's birth certificate, she learned that she had been married to a citizen of Egypt named Mustafa Mohamed Mustafa Ahmed since January 27, 2022.
In reality, she was completely unaware of his existence and had never seen him. It later emerged that on February 17, 2022, Mustafa applied to the Russian migration service for a temporary residence permit based on the lost passport, citing his desire to live with his ‘wife’ in Russia.
The court examined the prosecutor’s claim and determined that the marriage had been conducted based on the lost passport. The marriage was declared invalid, and the civil registration of the marriage was annulled.
