Investigation Completed for Two More Individuals Involved in Vandalism Incident Outside Foreign Ministry
The investigation into the case of group vandalism committed by a group of individuals during an action held on May 31 in front of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has been completed for two more persons.
The Investigative Committee reports that it has been established that during the action organized under the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement on May 31, 2024, around 16:00, a group of individuals, including residents aged 37 and 42 from Yerevan, showed disrespect towards the public, overtly disregarding legal and moral norms. They ignored the demands of police officers to exhibit appropriate behavior and not disturb public order, making obscene remarks and throwing bottles and various objects towards the police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that were on duty at the scene.
During the incident, a 37-year-old man, with the aim of interfering with the lawful official activities of the police officers maintaining public order at the location, kicked one officer's foot and then struck a police shield. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old man threw a smoking object at the police officers. As a result of these actions, the peace of individuals present at the location was disturbed.
Based on sufficient evidence collected, charges have been filed against the 37-year-old man under the third part of Article 452 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, and as a measure of restraint, he has been placed under house arrest. The 42-year-old man was charged under the first point of the second part of Article 297 of the Criminal Code, and a prohibition on leaving was chosen as a measure of restraint against him.
The investigation regarding these two individuals has been completed, and the materials of the criminal case, along with the indictment conclusion, have been sent to the supervising prosecutor for approval and onward submission to the court.
Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported that during the protests held on May 31, 2024, near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia as part of the "Tavush for the Homeland" movement, the cases against three individuals regarding apparent vandalism were also sent to the court separated from the main proceedings.
Notice: The accused is considered innocent until proven guilty by a court decision that has entered into legal force in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
