Nearly 70 Arrested Following Unrest in Turkey

Turkish law enforcement has arrested nearly 70 people involved in the unrest that occurred in the city of Kayseri following the arrest of a Syrian suspect in connection with child abuse allegations. This was reported by Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

Yerlikaya clarified that the child involved is a relative of the Syrian man, and an investigation has been initiated. “However, afterwards, citizens gathered in the area, acting illegally and displaying actions inconsistent with human values, damaging homes, businesses, and vehicles belonging to Syrians. A total of 67 people have been arrested as a result of the intervention of law enforcement agencies,” the minister stated.

Yerlikaya condemned the manifestations of intolerance and breaches of public order. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also reported that the unrest in Kayseri, located in the southern part of the country, was provoked by the “poisonous” remarks of the opposition.

It should be noted that the disturbances in Kayseri began after police arrested a Syrian man in the Danışmentgazi district related to the abuse of a child of Syrian origin. The child has been placed under the care of welfare authorities.
