Officials in North Korea Begin Wearing Badges Featuring Kim Jong Un's Portrait
Officials from the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea have started to wear badges featuring the portrait of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This was first noticed in footage from the 10th plenum of the WPK Central Committee, published by the Korean Central News Agency.
According to the South Korean Yonhap agency, "The badge featuring Kim Jong Un's portrait was officially released for the first time on Sunday." Badges featuring the portrait of Kim Il Sung, the founder of North Korea, were first issued in November 1970, while badges with the portrait of his successor, Kim Jong Il, began circulation in February 1992, in honor of his 50th jubilee.
In June 2024, during a visit to North Korea by Russian President Vladimir Putin, he presented Kim Jong Un with a portrait of his grandfather, Kim Il Sung, as well as a palekh (a type of Russian folk and applied art).
