Leader of Turkey's Opposition to Meet Putin in Russia
The leader of Turkey's opposition Republican People's Party, Özgür Özel, is expected to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin next week as part of his tour. The politician revealed this during an interview with journalist Fatih Altaylı.
"Next week, I plan to attend the European Socialist Party leaders' summit in Bucharest. Meetings are scheduled not only with European leaders, but we will also travel to Russia and Beijing. We will meet with Putin and have already received an invitation, and we will head to China as well as Brazil, where we will meet with President Lula da Silva. We will meet with social-democratic leaders and those leaders with whom Turkey has close relations," Özel stated.
This news has yet to be commented on from Russia. Özgür Özel has previously spoken out several times about the relations between Russia and Turkey, particularly supporting Ankara's policy of not joining sanctions against Russia and advocating for the preservation of the Montreux Convention concerning the restriction of naval ships in Turkish straits.
