We Recognize Him This Way, We Remember Him This Way, Nothing Changes in This Regard: Peskov

The press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, has expressed doubts about the normalization of relations between Russia and the European Union following the recent personnel changes. “In this case, we are talking solely about the topic of relations with Russia. Ms. von der Leyen is not an advocate for the normalization of relations between the EU and Russia - this is how we recognize her, this is how we remember her. In this regard, nothing changes,” stated the official representative of the Kremlin.

Peskov also commented on the appointment of Kaja Kallas as the head of European diplomacy. According to the Kremlin representative, Kallas has “not shown any diplomatic inclinations so far,” and is known for her “absolutely unyielding and at times even brazenly hostile statements against Russia.” Peskov noted that it is unlikely that European diplomacy would act in some way towards normalizing relations with Russia. Currently, the prospects for relations between Moscow and Brussels are being assessed as poor, concluded the president's press secretary.

Peskov also mentioned that Russian authorities are monitoring the pre-election campaign in France, where parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 30. He added that the results of the voting are of interest to the Kremlin.
