New Details: Driver of Car with Tinted Windows Flees and Hits Patrol Vehicle
In the framework of the criminal proceedings conducted by the investigative department of the Yerevan city investigative administration of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in the Erebuni and Nubarashen administrative districts, several details have been uncovered regarding a citizen's hooliganism, interference with the lawful activities of police, and damage to property.
According to the collected factual data, on June 23, 2024, around 14:00, the patrol officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia, while on duty on Arshakunyats Avenue in Yerevan, noticed a 'Nissan Teana' vehicle with tinted side windows and instructed the driver via loudspeaker to stop. The driver continued driving until Tamantsiner Street and parked there. When a patrol officer attempted to approach the vehicle, the driver abruptly maneuvered and fled.
The patrol officers requested additional units via radio communication and continued to pursue the fleeing driver. The driver, ignoring the lawful demands of the patrol officers and grossly violating traffic rules while blatantly disregarding the rules of coexistence, drove the mentioned vehicle towards Artashat Highway, then changed direction towards Arin Berd Street, disrupting normal traffic and creating hazardous situations that instilled fear and anxiety among road participants and passersby.
During this time, the units that arrived in response to the patrol's call pursued the vehicle in their marked cars, but the driver, disregarding the police's lawful demands to stop and exit the vehicle, continued his criminal behavior. While proceeding along Arin Berd Street, the driver of the mentioned vehicle, in an attempt to create escape routes and obstruct the lawful activities of officials, collided with a patrol car and fled.
One of the patrol officers fired a shot from his service pistol at the left front tire of the fleeing car, but the driver continued to operate the vehicle erratically. The driver later hit an 'Opel' vehicle that was in traffic on Mantashyan Street in Yerevan, and when he was unable to continue driving, he was arrested by the patrol officers. It was revealed that he is a 23-year-old resident of Yerevan. As a result of the driver's actions with the 'Nissan Teana' vehicle, two police officers sustained bodily injuries, and significant property damage was caused to the patrol service's 'Skoda' and the aforementioned 'Opel' vehicles.
Based on sufficient evidence collected, the driver of the 'Nissan Teana' has been charged under Part 1 of Article 297, Part 1 of Article 264, and Part 3 of Article 452 of the RA Criminal Code. A motion has been submitted to the court regarding the selection of a precautionary measure against the 23-year-old young man; the court has ordered house arrest and bail. The investigation continues. A video of the incident had also been published.
