Government Allocates 1.7 Billion Dram for Liquidating ANIF's Liabilities and Expenses
The government decided today to allocate 1.7 billion dram for fulfilling the liabilities of the Armenian National Interests Fund (ANIF). The corresponding decision was included in the agenda of the government meeting as an unreported issue.
According to the justification for the decision, the funds are directed towards the "settlement of ANIF's liabilities and maintenance expenses for 2024." This comes amid the ongoing liquidation of ANIF, a decision that was made earlier this year in March. On May 23, the government decided to transfer the management of the fund to the State Property Management Committee until its liquidation is complete.
It is worth noting that one of ANIF's largest investments was the establishment of Fly Arna, the national airline. However, at the beginning of the year, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan admitted that this project had failed.
Another major investment that ANIF was involved in was in partnership with the Arab company Masdar to build a solar power plant in the village of Dastakert in Talin. Previously, Freedoms reported in March that the construction of the power plant had not yet begun.
Currently, the Investigative Committee is conducting a criminal investigation into ANIF's activities, but no charges have yet been filed against anyone.
