We continue to believe that this corresponds to the interests of our two peoples: Zakharova
Russia is ready to pursue the path of restoring diplomatic relations with Georgia and supports initiatives from Tbilisi in this regard. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, during a press briefing on June 26.
She added that the Russian side believes that the normalization of relations would benefit both peoples.
“We continue to believe that this (normalization of relations) corresponds to the interests of our two peoples... We support any initiative that promotes Russian-Georgian normalization. In this context, we welcome the mentioned initiative. We are ready to go down this path,” she said.
On June 16, Georgia's “Unity for Peace” Party requested Russian President Vladimir Putin to cancel the visa regime between the two countries. The party's international secretary Mamuka Pipia suggested easing the rules for employment for Georgian citizens. In his opinion, such measures would contribute to the further rapprochement of the countries and the restoration of friendly and diplomatic relations.
