US Embassy Comments on Relations Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

The US Embassy in Armenia has welcomed the efforts towards peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan and expressed support for both countries’ territorial integrity. This statement was made in response to an inquiry from News.am regarding the Armenian side's proposal to establish a bilateral mechanism for investigating ceasefire violations.

“We welcome good faith efforts aimed at reducing tensions and achieving lasting and dignified peace in the region. The United States is prepared to support further steps in any way that is beneficial for the parties involved. Significant progress has been made by both parties over the past year. We encourage them not to miss the moment, to continue previous negotiations, and to sign an agreement as soon as possible,” the US diplomatic mission stated.

The embassy further emphasized that the conflict does not have a military solution. “We believe that the ongoing violence undermines the progress made by Armenia and Azerbaijan towards achieving lasting and dignified peace,” they added.

The US Embassy also expressed hope that Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a long-term peace agreement recognizing each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as soon as possible.
