Sons of Former Dagestan Leader Involved in Attack; He Arrested for 10 Days
Magomed Omarov, the recently dismissed head of Dagestan's Sergokalin District, has been arrested for a period of 10 days, as reported by Kommersant, citing Zarema Mamaeva, head of the press service of the republic's Supreme Court.
The Lenin District Court in Makhachkala found him guilty of committing an administrative offense according to Article 20, Part 1 of the Administrative Violations Code of the Russian Federation (petty hooliganism). Details regarding the nature of the offense have not been disclosed.
The ruling can be appealed to a higher authority, the court clarified.
Magomed Omarov was taken into custody the evening of June 24. Sources indicate that the investigation is currently considering whether to charge the former district head with aiding terrorism.
Earlier, Russian media reported that two of Omarov's sons were involved in an attack in Makhachkala. According to Kommersant, one of the sons, Osman Omarov, was among those who participated in the assault on a synagogue, a church, and police officers in Makhachkala.
On June 23, armed individuals opened fire in Makhachkala and Derbent, targeting two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a traffic police station.
