US Secretary of State's Special Representative Visits Syunik and Makes Remarks

The Special Representative of the United States for City and State Diplomacy, Nina Khachikyan, visited the Syunik region to familiarize herself with the local cultural and historical sites. This was noted in Nina Khachikyan's posts on her X microblog.

“Before returning home, I spent the weekend in Syunik, southern Armenia. It is truly an incredible place; the history, culture, wonderful people, and breathtaking natural beauty have impressed me. The natural beauty of Syunik is astonishing, surrounded by ancient history. Armenians have lived here for thousands, even tens of thousands of years,” Khachikyan remarked in her post, adding that, just like everywhere in Armenia, there are beautiful ancient churches in Syunik, as Armenia was the first country to adopt Christianity in 301 AD. “Some structures that we saw date back to the 400s AD,” she noted.

The Special Representative also commented on the local cuisine, stating that in Syunik, as well as everywhere in Armenia, the food is fresh and delicious, but there are special regional dishes and a considerable amount of mountain tea. She also expressed hope that she would return to the Syunik region soon.

“We wandered through ancient villages built hundreds of years ago, where there were large fruit-bearing trees such as mulberry and walnut. Some shelters were natural caves and stone-carved dwellings,” Khachikyan mentioned in her writings.
