Romanian Village to Become NATO's Largest Military Base in Europe
The Mihail Kogalniceanu airbase in Romania will soon transform into NATO's largest military base in Europe, even surpassing Germany's Ramstein, according to BBC reports.
The base is named after a nearby village, which in turn is named after the 19th-century liberal political figure Mihail Kogalniceanu.
The military base will soon host a squadron of Romanian F-16s, which were recently purchased from Norway, as well as MQ-9 Reaper drones and a military enclave that will accommodate rotating troops from 32 NATO member countries, including soldiers, pilots, and sailors.
The arrival of six British Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons is also anticipated.
Located just 20 km from the Black Sea coast, the base is 300 km from Odessa and 400 km from Sevastopol.
