Ukraine Tightens Schedule for Power Outages
Ukraine has tightened the schedule for power outages on Sundays. This was reported by the Ukrainian publication 'Strana', referencing the Ukrainian energy company DTEK.
It was noted that previously there had been information about the implementation of schedules from 7 PM to 11 PM, but on June 23, it became known that the outages would begin at 11 AM.
On June 13, Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko stated that the country had lost half of its power-generating capacity. According to him, the remaining capacity is insufficient to survive the winter. Previously, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had mentioned that 80% of thermal production and one third of hydropower production had been destroyed in the country. He added that recently, Ukraine has lost 9 GW of power.
He noted that Kyiv has a 'clear plan' to build up to 1 GW of gas production this year, with an additional 4 GW planned for the coming years.
On the night of June 22, Russia carried out a powerful attack on Ukraine's energy facilities and military warehouses. The strike was so severe that neighboring Poland expressed concern and hastily scrambled its fighter jets.
Ukraine has stated that Russia launched Kalibr missiles from the Sea of Azov for the first time. Earlier, reasons were noted in Ukraine for approaching negotiations with Russia.
