Two Factions Emerge in the ruling party over EU Membership Dispute

Despite the fact that the issue of Armenia's EU membership has recently re-entered the political agenda through the actions of extra-parliamentary forces and is currently in a heated phase of discussion, no consensus has yet been formed within the ruling party regarding this matter. This is reported by the daily newspaper 'Jamanak'.

As is known, political forces in Armenia advocating for Western-oriented positions—Tigran Khzmalyan's 'European Party of Armenia', Aram Sargsyan's 'Republic' party, Arman Babajanyan's 'For the Republic' party, and Levon Shirinyan's 'Christian Democratic' party—have formed a 'Democratic Forces Platform' and officially proposed to the authorities to hold a referendum on joining the European Union. Moreover, the extra-parliamentary forces have set a deadline for initiating the process within the next 3-4 months.

The matter is so pressing that discussions are to be held today in the National Assembly regarding the proposal to conduct a referendum on submitting Armenia's EU membership application.
